Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, why it may be used, and the limited circumstances in which another party may receive it. By using Mason County Criminal History, you accept the practices stated below.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered in a search box is sent to the outside provider that operates the tool. That company processes the query and supplies its results. Mason County Criminal History does not keep its own log of those search terms.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email sent to us may be retained long enough to respond and manage the exchange. It remains within the organization unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

When a page loads, servers may receive routine technical information about the visit:

  • Page-view times and visit duration
  • The referring site, when one is provided
  • Browser name and version
  • Device type and operating system
  • Internet Protocol address
  • Pages viewed during the visit

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files saved by a browser. They and analytics services help combine traffic information, such as which pages are used most and where visits end. You can block cookies through browser controls, although some functions may then work differently.

What We Do With This Data

  • Diagnosing faults and maintaining site security
  • Routing a submitted query to the selected search partner
  • Measuring which resources visitors use
  • Operating and improving page performance
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Mason County Criminal History does not build, keep, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to the Mason County Sheriff, county courts, Michigan State Police Criminal Justice Information Center, and Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry. Visitor data is not assembled into a report about another person, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search tools. A partner’s privacy policy, retention schedule, and sharing practices apply to information entered there. Those practices are outside our control, so review the provider’s terms before submitting a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to Mason County offices, Michigan agencies, court portals, or outside tools. Once you follow a link, that destination’s privacy policy governs the visit. Review it before disclosing personal information.

Advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be available to:

  • Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
  • Search partners processing a query you submit
  • Advertising networks serving content on the pages
  • A government authority acting under a valid legal demand

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable security practices are used to protect collected information. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, so a breach or unauthorized access cannot be ruled out.

Users Under 18

This service is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If information from a minor is identified, it will be removed.

Your Data Rights

Rights can depend on where you live and which law applies. Michigan’s Freedom of Information Act, MCL 15.231 et seq., governs records of covered public bodies rather than this private website. MCL 28.243 governs dissemination of Michigan criminal-history repository information. Subject to applicable law, you may:

  • Request deletion when the law provides that option
  • Ask what personal information is held about you
  • Seek correction of inaccurate personal information
  • Object to processing where an applicable law permits it
